The Moving Average Shift (MA Shift) is a dual-purpose trend and mean reversion indicator that blends a customizable moving average with a volatility-adjusted oscillator. It is designed to help traders visualize trend bias, spot price dislocations, and identify potential reversal points with clarity.
At its core, MA Shift plots a moving average line on the price chart and builds a dynamic oscillator that measures how far price has diverged from that moving average—normalized by historical volatility. The result is a smooth, noise-filtered tool for detecting momentum shifts and mean reversion opportunities.
Key Features
-
Multiple MA Types - Choose from 9 moving average types to fit your strategy:
- SMA (Simple)
- EMA (Exponential)
- WMA (Weighted)
- VWMA (Volume-Weighted)
- HMA, DEMA, TEMA
- ZLEMA, Linear Regression
- Volatility-Normalized Oscillator - The oscillator compares the price’s deviation from the moving average against the 99th percentile of recent deviations, creating a standardized view of dislocation regardless of asset volatility. This helps identify true overextension and reversion zones.
-
Dynamic Oscillator Coloring - The oscillator has four color states, showing trend momentum and directional changes:
- Uptrend Strengthening (Above 0 and rising)
- Uptrend Weakening (Above 0 and falling)
- Downtrend Weakening (Below 0 and rising)
- Downtrend Strengthening (Below 0 and falling)
-
Mean Reversion Signal Diamonds - Optional signal markers (diamonds) appear when the oscillator crosses a 2-bar back value under extreme conditions—suggesting potential reversion trades:
- Buy Signal: Oscillator crosses up while below –Threshold
- Sell Signal: Oscillator crosses down while above +Threshold
- Trend Bias Candle Coloring - When enabled, candles are dynamically colored based on whether price is above or below the moving average—giving quick visual cues for trend bias and confluence with your strategy.
- Floating MA Dot (Optional) - A floating dot is plotted on the chart to represent the current MA level in a size and color matching the directional bias. This helps track mean reversion targets visually without crowding your chart.
Unlike standard MA or overbought/oversold tools, MA Shift dynamically adapts to current market conditions—filtering noise, highlighting real price inefficiencies, and offering clear signals without overwhelming your chart. Whether you're scalping intraday or analyzing swing setups, MA Shift becomes an intuitive guide for timing entries, exits, and reversals.
