FAQ
How is this different from regular volume?
Regular volume shows raw volume in absolute terms — but the same volume value means very different things at 9:30am vs 1:00pm. Volume By Time normalizes against historical patterns for that exact time of day, so you only see truly anomalous activity, not just routine session patterns.
What do the outlined and filled bars mean?
Outlined bar = the historical average volume for this exact time of day. Filled bar = current live volume. When the filled bar exceeds the outlined bar, current participation is above normal — momentum or smart money is active. When it stays inside, the market is below normal participation.
How do I configure the lookback period?
Set the number of historical days used to calculate the average baseline. More days = smoother baseline but slower to adapt. Fewer days = more responsive but noisier. Try 10–20 days as a starting point and adjust for your instrument.
What's the directional volume mode?
Optionally separates bullish vs bearish volume so you see not only whether participation is above normal, but which side is driving it — buyers or sellers.
