Overview

Periodic Linear Regression (PLR) for NinjaTrader 8 — brings a quantitative edge to trading by combining adaptive linear regression with RMSE-based deviation channels, available in both Static (anchored) and Rolling (real-time) modes.

Built for traders who want to measure trends statistically instead of estimating them. Static mode non-repainting on closed periods; rolling mode real-time tracking. Automation-ready, Strategy Builder compatible.

What Makes It Different

Two Powerful ModesStatic mode locks regression to a defined anchor period for clean segmented analysis. Rolling mode recalculates every bar for real-time responsiveness.
RMSE-Based ChannelsChannel bands derived from statistical deviation (not fixed multipliers) — outer zones genuinely reflect overextended price conditions.
Flexible AnchoringPeriodic anchors from minute to weekly — align regression with the structural rhythm that matters to your strategy.

Trading Concepts You'll Use

  • Linear regression analysis
  • Statistical trend measurement
  • Anchored vs rolling regression
  • RMSE-based deviation channels
  • Statistical support & resistance
  • Mean reversion at channel extremes

Features

Core Detection

  • Adaptive Regression Engine: Calculates best-fit linear regression trend line for price within the anchor period.
  • Static Mode: Locks to a defined anchor period — creates clear segmented trend phases for higher timeframe and macro analysis.
  • Rolling Mode: Continuously recalculates each bar — adapts instantly to market changes for intraday trading.
  • RMSE Channel Bands: Channels derived from statistical deviation, not fixed multipliers.
  • Flexible Anchoring: Periodic anchors from minute to weekly.
  • Multiple Price Sources: Close, open, high, low, HLC3.
  • Gradient Visualization: Color-coded trend direction with adjustable opacity.

Automation & Pro Tools

  • Hidden Plots: Regression line, upper band, and lower band all exposed for Strategy Builder.
  • Mean Reversion Logic: Build fade strategies at channel extremes.
  • Trend Continuation Logic: Use the regression line as a dynamic pullback level.
  • Confluence-Friendly: Combine with HyperTrend, IFVG, or structure tools.

How It Compares

How this stacks up against standard channel indicators on the market.

Feature ScalperIntel Standard Channels
Statistical Accuracy ✔ High (regression-based) ✖ Approximate
Adaptive Anchoring ✔ Yes ✖ No
Trend Clarity ✔ Precise ✖ Lagging
Support / Resistance ✔ Statistical zones ✖ Subjective
Dual Mode ✔ Static + Rolling ✖ Single mode

Compatibility

Platform Support

  • NinjaTrader 8 — Latest stable build. Works across all NT8-supported instruments and timeframes.
  • Strategy Builder — Regression line and channel bands exposed for full automation.
  • BloodHound — Integrate regression with BloodHound logic packs.
  • Blackbird — Strategy chains supported.

Reliability & Trust

  • ✔ Static Mode: regression finalizes when a new anchor begins — non-repainting on closed periods
  • ✔ Rolling Mode: recalculates per bar by design for real-time tracking
  • ✔ Reliable for live trading and Strategy Builder backtesting
  • ✔ Longer anchor periods and higher bar counts increase computation — plan accordingly
  • ✔ Continuously updated — bug fixes and new features included with every Lifetime License

FAQ

What's the difference between Static and Rolling mode?

Static mode locks the regression to a defined anchor period (e.g. daily, weekly). It creates segmented phases — best for macro and structural analysis. Rolling mode recalculates each bar in real time — best for active intraday execution. Pick what matches your trading style.

Does it repaint?

Static mode is non-repainting on closed periods — the regression updates during the active period and finalizes when a new anchor begins. Rolling mode recalculates per bar by design, which is real-time tracking rather than repainting. Both are reliable for their intended use cases.

How are the channels different from Bollinger Bands?

Bollinger Bands use standard deviation around a moving average. PLR uses RMSE around a regression line — a tighter statistical fit that gives cleaner overextension signals at channel extremes.

Can I automate this?

Yes. Regression line and channel bands are exposed for Strategy Builder — ideal for fade strategies at channel extremes or pullback entries to the regression line.

Which anchor period should I use?

Use a period that matches your trade duration. Scalpers might use 1-hour anchors; intraday traders use daily; swing traders use weekly. The anchor defines the structural rhythm the regression aligns with.

Will I get future updates?

Yes — every Lifetime License includes all minor updates and bug fixes for as long as the product exists. Major version upgrades are also included.
